Open Your Heart

image

February is the month of love!  I’m sure we have Hallmark to thank for that, but I’m all for sharing the love no mater where it originated from.

This month I’m participating in two yoga challenges on Instagram. I’m doing the #LetsGetFlexyin2015 sponsored by AloYoga and the #Open4Love challenge!  What better way to show love than to love your own body to begin with!  I highly encourage you to love your body with some yoga poses each day this month. If you aren’t one for doing a challenge for an extended period, there are a few that are for only half the month. Check these wonderful challenges and me out on Instagram @Andrea_fromfltond!

Doing the Burpee Mile

How does one write about someone doing a mile of burpees?  Nothing I write could give Rita, age 50, the credit and accolades she deserves.  Rita did a full mile of burpees with push-ups in 1 hour and 35 minutes!  She would have broken the record of 1 hour and 15 minutes, if we all didn’t make her stop and take pictures.

When we all met up with Rita at the Y, she had two canvas boards labeled with each lap and who she was dedicating it to.  She then asked us to write in who we dedicated our lap(s) to below hers.  I thought this was such a wonderful and meaningful thing to do.

Lap 1

Rita started out her first lap with a bang!  She rocked her way around the track in 10 minutes!

Lap 2

Margel and her son joined Rita in her second lap.  Both Margel and I have problems doing push-ups due to injuries.  Margel discovered that we had to do our burpees with the push-ups to give our legs that quick break…boy was she right too!

Lap 3

IMG_0185

Can you say rockin’ body!?!

Lap 4

 IMG_0203  IMG_0204

Rita loved having everyone there to do laps with her.  We would cheer for her, and then she would start cheering for us, and telling us how proud she was of us and how great we were doing!

Lap 5

  IMG_0207  IMG_0215

Rita’s husband, Barry, joined her for a lap of Burpees!

Lap 6

IMG_0213  IMG_0210IMG_0198

Margel, Stephanie, and I joined Rita for this lap.  I started out without the push-ups, but about 7 burpees into it, I added those push-ups in to save my quads, because they were already on fire!  I’m the one in the middle.

Lap 7

Second to last lap, and Rita is still going strong.  She had perfect form, strong push-ups, and great forward jumps!

Lap 8

Devin and I joined Rita for her last lap of burpees.  She stayed so strong through that last lap, and finished with a smile!!

A special thank you to everyone who was there to support Rita on her Burpee Mile!!

Best Body Bootcamp and Elliptical Time

bootcamp_large

Another round of Best Body Bootcamp is coming to an end today.  Just like the last round, I got great workouts from Tina each week.  I love how all my muscles get worked during each workout, and the differences that I see in my body.

One of the greatest things about the challenge (at least for me) are the two personal goals Tina asks us to make each week.  For this round of the challenge some of my goals have been making sure to drink water all day long, stretching for 15 min each day, journaling my food intake each day (keeping track of protein and calories), getting to bed by 10:30 pm, only 2 cups of coffee each day, and eating 6 servings of fruit/veggies each day.  I find that these goals make me feel better both from the health and personal stand points.

The next round of Best Body Bootcamp starts back up on April 1st.  Guess who will sign up again?  Yup that’s right…I will. I’m totally in love with Tina’s workouts, and I’m already excited about all the new workouts Tina will have for us!  Registration will open on March 4th for the next round of Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp, and I highly suggest you sign up too.

It is only $25, and you get great workouts for every week!! Where can you go wrong? Not only do you get 8 weeks worth of amazing workouts you can do at home…you get huge cash prizes! At the end of the 8 weeks there will be five $1000 cash prizes! Then each week there will be a $100 cash prize! The prizes are determined/based on your consistency and commitment to staying active and achieving personal health and fitness goals of your choosing. This is NOT about who loses the most weight/inches or looks “the best” in progress photos. It IS about staying committed to better choices and habits, challenging yourself, and making a lifestyle change for the better.

Here is an overview of how the program works:

  • Every two weeks, Tina emails everyone in the group new workouts with detailed instructions and links to online videos to watch in case you’re unsure about how to do certain exercises. Tina also offers modifications of each exercise in case you need an easier version of the exercise or a harder version of the exercise. About 90% of the workouts can be done in the comfort of your own home using free weights and stability balls. If it is an exercise that calls for a machine at the gym, Tina gives you an at-home version of the exercise in case you cannot go to the gym.

What do you look for in a workout or workout program?

Today I’m doing my Best Body Bootcamp workout, teaching a Spinning class, and doing the elliptical workout below.  This is an elliptical workout I had in my 2007 fitness note book…I have many notebooks.  I’m using it for my warm-up!  Remember to stretch when you are done!

Rita

Well folks, it is only 3 days till we do Rita’s Burpee Mile!  This Saturday at 8am a group of us will be lining up at the Y to cheer Rita on while doing her mile of burpees around the track.  Rita really does know how to turn 51 with a bang!  Each of us will be taking turns doing laps of burpees with Rita to help keep her motivated.  Rita has asked that each of us dedicate each lap of burpees we do to someone or something.  Mine will be dedicated to my grandparents.  They were the people in my life who taught me to always look out for others and help them, that a individual can always make a difference, and so much more.

As for getting through a lap of burpees with the amazing Rita…I already called dibs on the second to last lap.  I know there is no way I can keep up with her in the beginning.  She is a power house!

Here are some fun burpee quotes I found online:

Spring-Challenge

Run to the Finish is hosting a Spring Bootie Buster Challenge for the first this year!!  The Won!challenge will run from March 4th to April 21st.  You know I already signed up for it!  Plus ALL PARTICIPANTS will be receiving a pair of Lock Laces!!  I did the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge, loved it, and took away so much from it.  Not to mention some totally awesome Oakley workout clothing that I won (see picture to right).  I highly encourage you to join me in the Spring Challenge.  You will find yourself more motivated than ever to stay healthy and fit.  When you sign up put down that From Florida to North Dakota sent ya!

Check out these recipes for homemade gummy bears without all the chemicals.  Taralynn has come up with several gummy recipes that I’m dying to try out myself.

The picture really says it all, but what it doesn’t say is that these Strawberry Baked Doughnuts only have 1 tablespoon of butter in the whole recipe and no oil!  Mary Quite Contrary Bakes has a winner here!

Glowing Science - Rainbow Eruptions

I’m a big fan of things that glow, so of course I pinned this fun kid project as soon as I saw it.  Glowing a Jeweled Rose has a great project for you and your kids with the Glowing Rainbow Eruptions.  If you have a black light it is even cooler!

I am a follower of the Food Babe, and I am so thankful for all the research she does to help keep the rest of us informed about what is actually in our foods and drinks.  One post I point people to is the Low Calorie Beverages Will Kill You Before They Solve Obesity article.  Please read it.  It will open your eyes to a lot of ingredients that are in your beverages and foods.  What did you think after reading her article?

15-Full-Body-Circuit

Itz Linz has a great full body workout that consists of 10 exercises with 15 reps each.  The above pic is only part of the workout, and to get the rest of it you have to go to Linz’s blog and fall in love with her #15 Full Body Circuit Workout!!  I’ve done this workout several times myself.
