It’s Friday!!

Woohooo!  The weekend is almost here!

What a week we have had!  The blizzard on Sunday and Monday brought a lot of snow to play in, and my son and I took advantage of it.  We have over 4 1/2 feet of snow in our front yard.  My 7 year old can now touch the tree branches from the top of the snow in our yard!

I got in some great workouts and had fun teaching my Spinning classes.  My favorite workout was an upper body workout pyramid I came up with on Wednesday.  I’m still sore from it.  As you can see, Lady was on the couch behind me loudly snoring.  She is so great when it comes to encouraging me to work harder during my workouts.

Wednesday I got to go out for a much needed drink with friends.  I haven’t had a chance to go out with them in months, and I loved hearing their stories about getting chased by Girl Scouts trying to sell their cookies at the mall.

Sweat Pink

I just was selected as a Sweat Pink Ambassador a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and honored to join such an inspiring group of women. My Sweat Pink gear came in the mail yesterday, and I’m already wearing it in pride.  I’m looking forward to working with Sweat Pink to inspire others through my blog and my stories as others have inspired me. We had a little change in our menu, so I’ll be making the Caprese Pasta from Aris Menu tonight.  I’m really looking forward to trying this new recipe out!

Best Body Bootcamp and Elliptical Time

Another round of Best Body Bootcamp is coming to an end today.  Just like the last round, I got great workouts from Tina each week.  I love how all my muscles get worked during each workout, and the differences that I see in my body.

One of the greatest things about the challenge (at least for me) are the two personal goals Tina asks us to make each week.  For this round of the challenge some of my goals have been making sure to drink water all day long, stretching for 15 min each day, journaling my food intake each day (keeping track of protein and calories), getting to bed by 10:30 pm, only 2 cups of coffee each day, and eating 6 servings of fruit/veggies each day.  I find that these goals make me feel better both from the health and personal stand points.

The next round of Best Body Bootcamp starts back up on April 1st.  Guess who will sign up again?  Yup that’s right…I will. If it is an exercise that calls for a machine at the gym, Tina gives you an at-home version of the exercise in case you cannot go to the gym.

Today I’m doing my Best Body Bootcamp workout, teaching a Spinning class, and doing the elliptical workout below.  This is an elliptical workout I had in my 2007 fitness note book…I have many notebooks.  I’m using it for my warm-up!  Remember to stretch when you are done!

I’m On My Way!!

As you are sitting there reading this post I’m flying to Florida, and if you are reading this post after 2:30 pm EST I’ll already be in Florida hugging the first palm tree I see!  It should be gorgeous, sunny, and 80 degrees when I land.  Try not to be too jealous.  I’m sending warm thoughts your way. Smile

I’m beyond excited for my next few days in Florida, but the feeling of guilt is starting to creep over me.  I have not gone anywhere on a trip for myself in 9 years.  I have always gone to Florida with my son the past few summers since we moved to North Dakota.  The amazing thing is, my son is totally fine with me going to Florida without him this time.  He is more focused on making his own plans for while I’m gone.  All I can say is that he is a better person than I am, because I would be throwing the mother of all temper tantrums if our rolls were reversed.

Still I feel a bit guilty leaving my husband and son behind while I head off to see friends, family, and learn aerial yoga and silks.  Honestly, it is bugging me that I feel this way.  My husband heads off for hunting trips all the time, and everything is great while he is gone and when he returns we are all happy (he never has an inkling of guilt before leaving).  So why is it I’m starting to feel guilty?  I know a few of my friends feel this way as mothers too.    Do any of you have these feelings when you are about to leave for a trip and leave your husband and/or children behind?

Alright, I’ll stop prattling on about guilt and be thankful that I’m getting to go to Florida, so we can get to Workout Wednesday.

Here is a 30 minute elliptical workout I found in one of my old fitness notebooks from 2007!  I love going through my old workouts and reviving them or tweaking them a bit to make them new!  Sorry about all the pink.  I kinda got carried away with the Valentines theme.  Hope you have a great Workout Wednesday, and remember to stretch when you are done!

Monday…Christmas Eve…I Need More Time!

Where does the time really go to!?!  I know I keep asking this, but I would like an answer.  Since we are not going anywhere for the holidays, and no one is visiting us, I figured I should use this time to get some things done around the house.  Therefore, I have set quite a few goals I would like to accomplish over the holidays, and it looks like I’m going to need more time!  The only thing that is done (and done early) was the present wrapping.

One of my major goals is cleaning our laundry room.  Over the past month it has become a dumping ground for everything!  My husband dumps his hunting clothes and junk, I dump laundry and recycling, and our son…well, it looks like he is the clean one and us parents are the slobs.  How did that happen?  So, I will be finishing off this project today!  What are you doing for Christmas Eve?

Then, I have a massive stack of magazines to get through.  Plus a few books too!  Last night I stayed up late reading again.  A sweet friend of mine (thank you Karen) sent me the book The School of Essential Ingredients for Hanukkah.  She enclosed a note telling me that I should take some time to relax, and that this book would help me to relax.  So far I’m enjoying the book and the cooking in it!  I’m now reading 3 books at once!  How does this keep happening to me!?!

I’m still trying to get past the beginning (stuck at pg 39) of Gone Girl.  I keep hearing about how great this book is, but the beginning is kinda slow.  Now I know that there are a lot of books out there that start out slow and then suck you right in and keep you up all night reading.  I’ve read quite a few of those books myself, so I know I just need to steam ahead with Gone Girl and get to that “suck-you-in” part.

We did get the tree up yesterday!  We waited till the last minute due to our dear sweet dog Hank who has an aversion to Christmas trees.  Last year he destroyed the tree, 9 strands of LED lights, and ALL the Hallmark ornaments on the tree.  Then, just to prove some kind of sick point, Hank chewed through the cord on my Dyson.  This all happened in a 30 minute time span while I was next door at our neighbors.  So, this year we put the tree up at the last minute to avoid any problems.  It is kinda bare due to the ornaments that were destroyed last year, but our son loves it, so I’m happy.

Well, you cannot have a Christmas Eve post without me mentioning food.  This morning my husband made us some of the best Belgian waffles ever!  It was a yeast dough from King Arthur Flour, and those waffles were divine.  Oh, we had some healthy scrambled eggs to go along with the waffles too!  On a side note…Please enjoy your holiday eating and don’t feel guilty. We all need to kick back and enjoy life and have fun. I know I’ll be smiling while inhaling our chocolate croissants tomorrow morning!

Now, if you happen to be in a hotel with an elliptical, at the gym, or at home with an elliptical, here is a 35 Minute Workout for you.  I did this Elliptical Workout a few weeks ago.  It is a butt burner to say the least.  There was no method to my madness when I was doing this workout.  I just wanted to really work my muscles.  My goal was to pick up the pace and try to go faster for one minute or a 30 sec sprint during each interval.  Remember to stretch afterwards!

Workout Wednesday

I hope everyone is having a great week!

I have had a great week except for the at-home exercise department.  My dear sweet dog Hank has been thwarting my workout efforts more than usual this week.  I had to spend about 15 extra minutes just moving him away from my workout zone yesterday.  Hank has never liked me exercising at home, and he has always felt the need to force me to stop.  If I’m on my spinning bike, he will bark at me.  If I’m doing push-ups or planks he will crawl underneath me and roll on his back.  If I’m doing an exercise while standing, he will lay on my feet.  And, if I’m doing concentration curls he will crawl under my legs and lay down, as you can see below.  He is not neglected either.  This boy gets a ton of cuddle and play time everyday.  I really have no idea why he hates me exercising so much.  Do any of you have furbutts that do not like it when you exercise at home, or am I the only one?

I’ve decided to post a new workout every Wednesday, making it Workout Wednesdays.  I will still post other workouts during the week, but Wednesday will always be a workout post day.  Today is the elliptical workout I will do this evening at the gym…This elliptical workout focuses on strength with a few sprints thrown in to give your endurance a boost!  Feel free to add an incline for an extra challenge!  Remember to stretch afterwardsSmile

Pre-Turkey Workout

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and with that comes a ton of food!  I just read a study that said the average American will consume 1 stick of butter on Thanksgiving (the amount of butter in the cooked food and added as a condiment).  How crazy is that!?!  Try to keep this in mind tomorrow, and when you are eating leftovers too!  Here is a chart of the amount of calories in one Thanksgiving meal and the exercises to burn it off.  My friend, Katie, found this, and I thought it was pretty neat.

Also, try to do a workout on Thanksgiving too!  I’ll be teaching a 60 minute “Burn the Bird” spinning class at our gym.  There are also a lot of 5Ks going on around the country on Thanksgiving too.  Get a group of friends together and go to one!  Don’t worry about not running it…just go do it!  You will be surprised at all the walkers out there doing 5Ks!

Let’s Talk Snow

Well, it finally came.  Our first blizzard of the year!  In one night we got about a foot of the white stuff. I didn’t even bother to get up to look outside as soon as I woke up to see how much we got.  I was too afraid of what I might see.  Instead, I grabbed my Blackberry and got on Facebook.  There it was…A post from my wonderful and thoughtful friend, Melissa, on my wall.  What you may ask did she post?  Well, she was kind enough to post a link to the “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” song on my wall page.  Dear sweet Melissa knows how much I truly hate the snow and was thoughtful enough to share her love for the white stuff.  I still got a really good laugh out of it, and that is what I needed.  After seeing her post, I knew there would be a lot of snow on the ground.  So, the dogs and I got our butts out of bed.  Apparently I was not moving fast enough for Hank and Tilly, because they started doing their little happy dances while I was trying to put socks on.  They were all excited about the new fresh snow to romp and play in, and boy was there a lot of snow to play in!

You would think that all this snow would deter my husband and his friend from hunting at 7 am that morning, but it didn’t.  They told us that they “had to” go since it will be the last chance they get to hunt ducks this year since all the water will be frozen over after that day.  To top it off both men were crazy enough to drive on roads that were covered in over 8 inches of snow just to shoot some ducks.  Thankfully they didn’t have any problems and had a great hunt!

As for me, well I decided to shovel our long driveway for my workout.  I was sweatin’ in no time.  Talk about a good core, arm, and leg workout!

After shoveling snow, my son and his friend had a ball playing in the snow and riding in a sled while being pulled around by our friend’s four-wheeler.  For as much as I hate this white stuff on the ground, it is a ton of fun to see my son laughing and playing in it.  Afterwards they came into our friend’s house all pink cheeked and ready for some hot chocolate to warm up with.

On to a workout…I forgot to post this elliptical workout earlier in the week when I did it.  SorrySad smile.  This is a 20 minute workout, and is one butt busting hill.  It will tone up that bootie!
