Spinning Time!

image_1

Had to share that little quote with ya.  I’m thinking I need this quote on a workout tank for the gym.  I know it would make everyone laugh.

Thought I would share the outcome of yesterdays ravioli lasagna with ya.  It was delish!  This recipe is a definite in the “make-again” department.  Plus it was fast and easy to put together.  I’m thinking about switching out the chicken sausage next time with garlic roasted chicken breasts that I can shred up.  Definitely make this recipe.  It is perfect for those days when you don’t want to come home and have to spend a ton of time cooking in the kitchen.

Workout Wednesday 2

Well, I’ve finally had some time to type up a fun basic workout for the beginner.  Lately I have been working with a group of beginners to the fitness world.  They have been enthusiastic and very motivated, and I’m beyond proud of them!

Below is a great circuit workout that will introduce you to basic plyo and weighted moves.

Complete each circuit 2-3 times before moving on to the two individual exercises, and then on to the next circuit.  Feel free to end you workout with some abdominal work!

And the Snow Begins

First snow 2013

Well, winter is here.  Thankfully we have a few days of temps in the 50s coming our way soon, so I won’t totally flip out about the snow on the ground this morning.  As you can see in the picture above, I need more time to get all my EarthBoxes and flower pots cleaned out and put away for winter.  Not to mention all the deck furniture.  I just need mother nature to give me one good day of sunny nice weather.

In the meantime, I’m keeping warm making my Crock Pot Loaded Potato Soup and Funeral Sandwiches (recipe to come soon!) for our company that is in town visiting and hunting.

Crazy Eights

Yesterday was such a nice day.  The sun was out and that always makes me feel better.  I taught my two spinning classes in the morning and afternoon.  They were unusually small, but I had a great time laughing my way through one of the classes.  It is always nice when you have people in your class that make you laugh and smile through the whole ride.  It really makes my day.

Yonannas

My son only had school for one day this week (lucky little bugger).  He is officially on spring break now, so to celebrate, he asked to take out the Yonanas machine last night and make “fruit yogurt”.  I honestly love our Yonanas machine and have written a post about it before.  All you do is add fruit and push it through the machine, and it comes out like soft serve ice cream.  It is so easy, and my son is the one to always make our Yonanas fruit desserts.  Last night he made us a combination of strawberries, pineapple, mango, and peaches.  I loved it and had seconds without feeling guilty since it was 100% fruit and nothing else.

Swag

Today both my son and I are off to the gym.  He is running his St. Baldricks Virtual Race before swimming.  Check out the medal and great swag he all got for this race in the above picture!  After we are done at the gym, we are heading to my new favorite restaurant in Minot, Big Time Bistro with Rita and Devin for lunch.  I’ve been craving their Chicken Bruschetta sandwich since I had it last Friday for lunch.

Workout Wednesday 2

Today’s workout has a fun “8” theme to it.  For each exercise you will do eight 2 count reps, then eight single count reps, and finally eight reps pulsing.  You may feel the burn in your legs today sooner than usual.  Remember to stretch when you are done.

It’s Friday!!

Woohooo!  The weekend is almost here!

snow fun

What a week we have had!  The blizzard on Sunday and Monday brought a lot of snow to play in, and my son and I took advantage of it.  We have over 4 1/2 feet of snow in our front yard.  My 7 year old can now touch the tree branches from the top of the snow in our yard!

post workout  Lady snoring

I got in some great workouts and had fun teaching my Spinning classes.  My favorite workout was an upper body workout pyramid I came up with on Wednesday.  I’m still sore from it.  As you can see, Lady was on the couch behind me loudly snoring.  She is so great when it comes to encouraging me to work harder during my workouts.

drinks!

Wednesday I got to go out for a much needed drink with friends.  I haven’t had a chance to go out with them in months, and I loved hearing their stories about getting chased by Girl Scouts trying to sell their cookies at the mall.

Sweat Pink

I just was selected as a Sweat Pink Ambassador a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and honored to join such an inspiring group of women. My Sweat Pink gear came in the mail yesterday, and I’m already wearing it in pride.  I’m looking forward to working with Sweat Pink to inspire others through my blog and my stories as others have inspired me. Sweat Pink is a, “Movement where tough and girly come together at last. It’s all about sharing the joy that comes from living a healthy lifestyle. It’s a celebration of hard work and well-earned rewards. Our pink shoelaces are a proud demonstration of all we’ve achieved, and all we plan to become.”

We had a little change in our menu, so I’ll be making the Caprese Pasta from Aris Menu tonight.  I’m really looking forward to trying this new recipe out!

smoothie

This morning I made my Power Protein Smoothie.  I’ll hit the elliptical before I teach my spinning class and here is what I’m doing.

How was your week?  Did you do anything special?

Rita

Well folks, it is only 3 days till we do Rita’s Burpee Mile!  This Saturday at 8am a group of us will be lining up at the Y to cheer Rita on while doing her mile of burpees around the track.  Rita really does know how to turn 51 with a bang!  Each of us will be taking turns doing laps of burpees with Rita to help keep her motivated.  Rita has asked that each of us dedicate each lap of burpees we do to someone or something.  Mine will be dedicated to my grandparents.  They were the people in my life who taught me to always look out for others and help them, that a individual can always make a difference, and so much more.

As for getting through a lap of burpees with the amazing Rita…I already called dibs on the second to last lap.  I know there is no way I can keep up with her in the beginning.  She is a power house!

Here are some fun burpee quotes I found online:

Oscar Style

What an amazing night for fashion and film at last nights Oscars!  I had a wonderful time crashing on the couch, eating chocolate cake (copious amounts) and watching the preshow for fashion and then the actual Oscars.  And boy were both shows great!

Seth McFarlane did a good job hosting.  I have to admit that I was laughing pretty hard at his whole “We Saw Your Boobs” song.  I actually still have the song stuck in my head.

Big congratulations to all the winners!  Although I do have to say that Ben Affleck may want to work on his acceptance speeches with his wife before he gives them.  I’m guessing that he didn’t mean to say that their marriage is work.  Poor guy was really nervous.

On to the fashion for the evening!

I’m someone who has zero fashion sense.  After all, I live out of my workout clothing.  That speaks volumes for itself.  However, I love watching all the women in their gowns, and choose which one I like the most.  And here are my nominees:

anne hathaway oscar dress 2013          anne hathaway oscar dress 2013

Anne Hathaway in Prada.  Did you notice her gorgeous Tiffany necklace? This whole dress was just amazing.  I wish I had an excuse to wear one like it.

161315075TM00439_85th_Annua  Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts in an amazing custom Armani gown in gunmetal gray.  I love how unique her dress is!

charlize theron hair

Charlize Theron was stunning in her Dior gown and an arm full of diamonds to die for!  Most of all, I love how she is rocking her new pixie cut.  Love it!

As for dresses I didn’t like:

jennifer aniston oscar dress 2013  jennifer aniston justin theroux oscars 2013

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino. I’m sorry, but I expect more from her in fashion, and her hair needed to be up, and maybe she should have added a necklace.

halle berry oscar dress 2013

Halle Berry…Sorry…I just could not get into her Versace gown.  It looked like something out of the 80s.  I know I’m probably the only person who didn’t like her dress.  Halle does have one rockin’ bod to pull this dress off and hug her in just the right ways.  I’ll give her credit for that.

What was your favorite dress of the night?

Unbroken

I finished Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand!  Our book club met last Monday to discuss Unbroken, and everyone absolutely loved it!  This book has made my Must Read Before You Die list.  This story truly showed what, “The power and strength of the human body and mind and soul can handle in extreme situations.”  You will find yourself immersed in the Pacific War and unable to let go.  There is love, forgiveness, trials, and heartache.  Hillenbrand does an amazing job capturing Louis Zamparini’s life in her latest novel.

The American Heiress

For next month our book club is reading The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin.  I read this novel last summer, and I found it to be a nice summer read.

It is winter and freezing cold here, so one can never have enough soup.  One of my favorite food bloggers, Country Cleaver, came up with this 40 Clove Garlic Soup with Parmesan Croutons recipe, and it sounds divine.  It will be on our menu as soon as I get back from Florida!

The Burpee Mile

545311_10150930352963188_602144742_n[1]

Many of you have read about some of the workouts I do with my trainer, Rita, on Fridays.  Therefore, you know what an amazing coworker and fitness minded woman she is.  Rita is such an uplifting and motivating woman, especially when it comes to making others stronger, inspired, and more motivated.

The Burpee Mile

Rita has a big birthday coming up in the beginning of March, and she wants to, “End her year of being 50 with a bang” (those are her words).  Guess what Rita has decided to do for her big “bang”?  Give up?  She will be doing the Burpee Mile!!  Most people who are turning 51 just want cake, drinks, and a nice get together with friends.  Not Rita!  She will be ending her 50th year by doing a mile of burpees!  It gets better too!  Not only is she doing a mile of burpees, Rita is doing a mile of burpees with push-ups!  Honestly, I dream of having her endurance one day, and can only pray that my wrinkly butt can do a mile of burpees when I’m 50.

Rita will be doing her Burpee Mile at the end of February (tentative date of Feb 27th), and a group of us will be taking turns doing the Burpee Mile with her.  You have to do 8 laps around our indoor track at the Y to equal a mile, and there will be 8 of us each doing 1 lap.  A week ago when the track was empty I tried doing some burpees to see how far I could get.  I purposely waited till it was empty just in case I made a fool of myself…I have a bit of an ego.  Halfway around the track I wanted to die or barf…maybe both.  So, I have some serious training to do.  What, may you ask can I do to train for the Burpee Mile (well 1/8th of it)?  Burpees!!  And some strength training too!

Now, I’m one of those people who love to hate burpees.  I absolutely hate them while I’m doing them, but afterwards I know the payoff is well worth it.  That is why I try to do some each week, and it looks like I will be doing a lot more for awhile too!  So for now this is my moto:

Feel free to join us while training for the Burpee Mile, or just to cheer Rita on!  And, here is a burpee loaded workout for Workout Wednesday to help you and me get through that mile…well, 1/8 of it Smile . Hopefully I will be able to do more when it comes time!  If you are a beginner to working out, knock down the 1 minute increments of burpees down to 30 seconds.  Take a 30 sec – 1 min break between each set.  Remember to stretch when you are done!

Burpee Time

A Fun Workout for Everyone

quote

Last week I was watching the Biggest Loser and Bob did the “Deck of Cards” workout with his team.  It got me to thinking about the last time I did the deck of cards workout, and I realized it had been over a year!  That means it is time for me to get out a deck of cards and get an amazing workout in!

Cards Workout

My son saw me grab the deck of cards, and he thought we were going to play a card game.  I then explained the workout to him, and he wanted to join right in.  I cut back the reps he had to do and made his exercises different from mine…after all, he is only 7.  So, we had a great workout together, and he had a ball laughing at me moaning about more burpees.  I swear my son stacked the deck against me.  He drew Aces and Kings back to back for burpees, spiders, and wall squats…I think I shed a tear at one point.

Here is how the Deck of Cards Workout goes:
Deck of Cards Workout

The great thing about this workout is that you get to choose 4 exercises, which makes it a perfect at-home workout, and a great workout for beginners (you can choose exercises based on your fitness level).  If you don’t want to use any equipment, you can choose exercises that only require you to use your own body weight, and there are quite a bit out there to choose from.  What exercises would you choose for your Deck of Cards Workout?

Here is what I chose for my exercises:
